Run like the wind

Yesterday afternoon when I got home from work, I changed into my work out clothes to go for a run. I sat down in the living room to put my running shoes on and Darren asked me where I was going. I told him that I was going running and that I would be back in a little while. He he asked me if he could go running with me. I looked at Michael and gave him the "what do you think?" look and he said yeah, let him go with you. So I got Dare all ready to run. We walked out the door with a water bottle, my phone and a towel. We walked to the cotton fields behind our house to a very long straight away that looks never ending. To Darren, this was a big deal and I am sure from his perspective it seemed like there was no end. As we were walking I told Darren that we couldn't stop and that we had to make it all the way to the end of the road. We started to job and Darren kept up the entire time. We stopped 2 times so he could get a drink of water and the last 30 yards we sprinted. Of course, Dare fell behind on that and got discouraged because he wanted to win and beat me to the finish line. When I turned around he sat there pouting. So I walked to him and told him to finish the run as fast as he could. He got a huge smile on his face and took off! My bony little man ran as fast as he could with elbows swinging! He couldn't stop talking about how proud he was that he ran all that way. He said "I bet dad is going to say that he is proud of me when I tell him that I ran super far!" I told him that I bet he was right! Darren held my hand the entire way home and when we walked through the door he ran right to Michael and said "Dad, I finished with mom and we ran so so far!" Michael said "Wow, you kept up the whole time? Great job Darren!" Dare ran over and gave Michael a high five and had the sweetest smile on his face. Man that kid! He gets me right in the heart!

So Michael and I were watching TV last night after the kids went to bed. Darren passed out right away but apparently Jaycee wasn't quite ready. So in the middle of Two and a half Men we hear a noise from down the hall where the kids rooms are. Michael presses pause and says that he will check it out. Within a minute Michael comes back into the living room and says you gotta come here. What could Jaycee possibly be doing? Well, she decided to go in the bathroom first, take out a small wooden box that I keep all her little rubber pony tails and clips in, bring them into her room, proceed to dump the entire thing onto her bed and play with them. Seriously, these mini rubber bands are just that, tiny little rubber bands that you can barely wrap even the thinnest hair twice in. So Michael and I start to clean up the mess, putting everything back into the box. We had Jaycee stand up to make sure that we got everything and when she did, I noticed that she had wrapped one of those tony rubber bands around her ankle. I could barely get the thing off it was so tight on her!!! But I did. I couldn't believe it! So I checked her other foot and her hands and thank god I did!!!! She had 3 of them wrapped so tight around her wrist that Michael had a hard time getting them off before I started to panic. Again, soooo not funny! All I could think about was what would have happened if we wouldn't have checked? I mean, really? Maybe an overreaction but she could have lost a foot or hand if she wasn't able to take them off herself! Needless to say all of those mini rubber bands are put away where she can not get to them anymore. Whewwwwww!

Memorial Day

The weekend of Memorial day was a good one! I took the Friday before off, had Monday off and took Tuesday off. We spent the weekend in Payson. My cousin Steel graduated from high school the previous Thursday so Dana threw him a party that Saturday. It was nice to be able to see all the Payson/Camp Verde gang again. Ryhin and Vance went with us to the party. It was interesting. Kirk came and picked Michael up to go fishing and I was there with all 4 of the kids. They were all really good and listened really well. The only thing that was difficult was trying to make 4 plates of food with only 2 hands lol. Everything was fine! The kids ate and had cupcakes after. Vance hung out by the ice chest so he could eat ice the whole time. Ryhin played with the baby hound dog and ate salsa from Aunt Tani. Jaycee walked around like she owned the joint and Darren played with his new friend Race, my cousin that is Darren's age. I got to see my Uncle John that I haven't seen in years! We also took the kids bowling which was a sight to see. They had a lot of fun and were sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for their turn. They were loving it until Lisa brought soda and french fries to snack on.

It was good to see the family and spend some time in the awesome Payson weather. A storm just isn't a storm unless you are there! I am already missing that place!

Sand and Mud Drags

Darren asks every day to go ET when we drive by in the morning and when we drive by in the afternoon. I cant believe that Michael and have both, for the most part, lived in QC all our lives and have only been there about 2 times. Saturday night we went to watch the sand and mud drags. Darren was in hog heaven watching all the dirt bikes, quads and trucks that came to race. Jaycee wasn't so fond because all the noise scared her. When she would finally get comfortable enough for me to put her down someone would drive by on their quad or dirt bike and rev their engine. Jaycee would turn around and run like a mad women to find me so I could pick her up. Funny but sad at the same time. But Darren, now that's a different story. He was talking to anyone and everyone that cared to listed or entertain him. He went on and on about how much he liked quads, dirt bikes and monster trucks. Ali and Essat were their with their cousins racing truck. Ali sat on top of the truck with Darren and they talked and talked about how he would teach him how to ride. All Michael and I could do was watch how happy he was and give each other the "yeah right, over my dead body" look and nod and let Darren soak it all up. Then there was the mud drags. They were so close it looked like you could reach out and touch them! Jaycee liked this more and was willing to get down from my hip and play in the dirt. Darren liked it too but there wasn't enough action to keep him as entertained. The highlight of the night was when a fuel car raced. The announcer let everyone know that it was an earplug worthy race but they were all sold out of them. They said to cover your kids ears because it was going to be loud. I held Jaycee, used my shoulder to cover one ear and held my free hand over her other ear. Darren and Michael stood on top of the truck to watch. The noise? Loud. Very loud actually. But Darren was just so happy to see the flames on this car and the parachute afterwards that he couldn't stop talking about it. It was pretty neat and surprisingly Jaycee didn't even flinch from it. I think the crowd screaming afterwards scared her more than the actual noise. It was quite the memory to share with the kids.

Don't mind the ones of me, I was pretty sick that day, from what I can remember. I LOVE the one of Darren with the curly fro! He was so little and young in that picture! Chicken Noodle Soup with a Soda on the Side

Where do I start with this one? I started a bad habit about a year ago and I have been paying for it ever since. You see, a while back anytime that a song came on the radio that I liked I would say "This is MY song!" And I would turn up the radio. The emphasis on the "my" was simply done for instructional purposes. Eventually Darren caught on to this and EVERY song became his. Now that was a long time ago but there is a valid reason why I bring it up. Every morning and every afternoon when I bring the kids anywhere, both Darren and Jaycee fight over whose song is playing on the radio. It has even gotten to the point where Darren negotiates with Jaycee and tells her she is only allowed to sing girl songs and he the boy songs. Depending on which station we are listening to, one of them is always sadly disappointed. They have also both determined that when it is "their" song, no one is allowed to dance to it or even so much as bob their head. Irritating, I know! Its a constant battle that I wish had never started. Shame on me for claiming a song, right? And know how is my title even relevant to this topic, you ask? Well, Michael got the kids happy meals last night for dinner. In the happy meal the "toy" was a lame CD. Kidz Bop, that is. And let me forewarn any parents planning on taking their kids to get a happy mean anytime soon, DON'T! Darren begged and begged to listen to his new and first CD. I told him that we would listen to it in the morning on our way to Lisa's house. Jaycee and Darren both got the EXACT same CD, with the EXACT same 5 songs on them, but that just wasn't good enough haha. So what was the first words out of Darren's mouth this morning? You got it! "Are we still listening to my new CD today?" Of course! I wouldn't miss it! Not only did we listen to the thing with both kids dancing like crazy in the back seat, we also listened to Jaycee same CD. Wouldn't you know that in playing all 10 songs we listened for a half an hour, the entire way to Lisa's? So now I find myself at work, dreading the declaration of the "my song" wars between my kids and the fact that I cant get the stupid Kidz Bop song Chicken noodle soup Chicken Chicken noodle soup, Chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side, song out of my mind!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes

Sometimes I look at my kids and think, man, they have changed so much! After I gave the kids a bath Sunday I was looking at Darren playing outside. He looked so tall! All I could think was that I wanted to remember how he looked right then because it was then that I realized that he was a kid, and not a little boy anymore. Everything about him screams KID. So that got me going, especially when I thought of how close he is to being 5 and Jaycee to 3. I know I don't have the best memory, although it is sometimes selective, but I wanted to take some pictures to help remind me of what they both looked like that day. Darren, who normally doesn't like pictures lately, was all for it. And there was no question about Jaycee who now proudly goes by Jaycee Jeanine Beauty Queen.

Easter 2009

Okay, picture overload time! Easter was AWESOME! We had lots of fun, there was lots of candy and family left and right. The weekend went WAY too fast but time sure does fly when you are having fun! Since my pictures are in no particular order, I will describe as I go. First, Michael was the best sport in letting me paint his face like a bunny! Anyone that knows Michael, knows that something like this is not his cup of tea. But he did it for me and the kids and they loved it! Darren and Jaycee loved it so much that they ate their dinner with it on too.

Don't mind the food on his mouth! But I do have to say, that is one CUTE little Willis bunny!

Jaycee had the bunny face down! After the paint dried, she was picking at it and scratching it off so I had to get some pictures quick. Darren asked if he could keeps his on and wear it to Lisa's like that the next morning. He is such a funny little guy!

And here is the perfect picture of what my day to day is like with these two! Michael and I colored eggs with the kids and they had so much fun. Thankfully everything was kept neat and clean in the process.

Me, Myself and I

Virgo is a very independent zodiac sign. They are fully able to put their intelligence to use and get things done for themselves. People look up to Virgo for friends because they are straight thinkers and solve problems logically. They are truthful, loyal and determined. Some people might find them cold or emotionally detached because they live in their minds, not in their emotions and feelings. It might be hard to pin down how a Virgo friend is feeling because they easily live in denial. A person who is able to read deep into another person will notice when Virgo is not well but if they confront them about it, they would rather retreat then talk about it. It is best to keep your emotional distance from a Virgo friend unless they open up to you first. Full Fledged Leo

Unlike the lion in this great classic, a Leo, represented by the lion, rarely loses his or her courage. In fact, in the jungle, the lion is defined by inner and outer strength and the desire to rule his or her kingdom. While a Leo’s strength may be overbearing for some, it’s also hard to miss the fact that they indeed have the “heart of a lion.” Leo is very independent but they need something to control and someone to admire them and appreciate them. They are fully capable of being greatly successful on their own but they are much happier if they have an audience and a following of people who look up to them. They would prefer not be alone.

This is my Jaycee. A Leo in full force! The Boss, the leader, the sassy little girl that loves to look at herself! What Leo wouldn't want a full mirrored closet in her bedroom? Jaycee does! She likes to see herself from all angles. She is friendly, fun-loving, hilarious, serious, sociable and crazy!

People are attracted to Leo's zest for life and their warm spirit. They have the ability to lift up one's spirits and provide encouragement when times are rough. Their enthusiasm attracts people, Leos are social butterflies, not because they want to be but because people always naturally gravitate and surround the Leo. Leos are very difficult people to not like, they are usually fairly balanced, realistic people. They never dwell on the past and they will think you are strange if you do. Some Leos might be too caught up in themselves and be very self-centered but they are never too self-absorbed to help anyone who needs it. They pamper their friends and treat them well. If Leo's audience (otherwise known as their friends) do not provide the needed appreciation, Leo is too proud to ask for it and they will suffer a hurt ego, but no one will ever know and they will suffer in silence. 2 blog special!

So today is a 2 blog special. I have 2 things to write about although the 2nd one wont come until later today.
Last night after Michael made dinner I was cleaning up the kitchen. You know, the good kind of clean, bleaching the counters, buffing the table and sweeping. Since the next 2 days will be busy ones I figured I would get all that stuff out of the way. I had been in there for some time and Jaycee was in the bathtub. Darren and Michael were on the couch watching American Idol. I heard Jaycee say "Mama, mere" which normally means that she is done playing and ready to be washed. I told her to hold on one second since I was up to my elbows in bleach. About a minute passes and her calm calling turned into a really quiet cry and she said "Mama, mereeeeeee!" Both Michael and I looked at each other and I knew that I had to drop what I was doing and go check on her. When I walked past Michael and Darren I looked at Michael and asked why I had the feeling that she pooped in the bath tub. When I made it to the bathroom, I saw a VERY wet bathroom rug and little chubby Jaycee sitting on the thin long side of the bathtub edge holding her knees, shaking and dripping wet and as I asked her what was wrong, I already knew. She pointed inside the bath tub and she said in a very small and shaky voice "care meeeeee!" Jaycee pointed at a floating turd in the bath tub and cried. I felt so bad and called Michael in the bathroom. We both waited until Jaycee was in our shower and clean before we cracked up laughing at what she had done. She was genuinely scared of what she saw floating in the bath tub. She is my little frady cat!

I love my family! I mean, not just my immediate family, extended too! They are fun, love to laugh and can make the best of any situation! I cant wait for Payson this weekend so I can see more of my family that I haven't seen in a while.

I thought I would share some of the pics from Nick's party on Sunday. It was extra windy! But it was still a good time with lots of laughs and lots of food. Cant beat that!

Take me to the River

Life is amazing, right? It wasn't until recently that I realized how much I want and need my family. I mean, really realized what its all about. I have always been a very family oriented person, but this time it was different. I realized that I have to let my kids be kids, get dirty and make a mess, get dirt under their nails, on their face and clothes and everywhere else that was once clean. I think its funny how I dread going into work because Michael is home with the kids and I want so badly to spend the day with them. I want to go to the park, I want to play basketball, I want to ride scooters around the neighborhood, I want to play with chalk in the backyard. Sounds selfish right? Not really. I just want to be there for the times that eventually will be no more. Darren is so big. I mean really big. The conversations we have leave me in awe sometimes. For both of the kids, I sit and think about how much I will miss each day with them as young kids. But the more I think about it, the more I look forward to the "real" conversations and times that I can spend with them. I cant wait to see Darren playing sports. I cant wait to be the loudest mom with the best posters in the stands cheering him along. He wants to play EVERYTHING! and I am okay with that! I am really looking forward to all the times that I will get to share with the kids in the future.

So, what got me started on this whole post anyway? I normally am not the biggest fan of fishing. I am more of the let Michael catch them and I will get the fish in the net. The last time just Michael and I took the boat out, it was just the two of us. We planned an overnight and bought a whole bunch of snacks and magazines and tanning oil for me. TMI, but a side note to those of you that don't have a ladder on your boat: don't jump in the water nakie unless you are sure that you have a enough upper body strength to pull yourself up, or you are SURE that your husband does! hahaha But it was great! Michael caught some whoppers worth writing home about and I brought them into the boat. It was a blast! One essential was missing. The kids. So, our goal this summer? Do a whole lot more of that! But with the kids.

Darren asked Michael if we could go to Sun splash last night on our way to softball. He loves that place. We have really been focusing more on family than anything right now. After all that has happened in the last couple months we are realizing that all the stuff we have can come and go, but we will always have each other, and value that. A family that plays together, stays together right?

So here are some pics of our first real family fishing trip together. I let loose a little and let the kids play in the mud/dirt and dig till there was dirt packed under their little nails. Gross, but fun haha. Even Jaycee caught 2 fish and reeled them in all by her self. When it came to holding her prize, she ran. Darren also caught 2 fish and you can see the determination in his face! Check out the bend in the pole too! He is so awesome! You can see how proud Michael is by the smile on his face! I tried my luck with Darren's sponge bob pole and what do you know? I caught 2 also. Michael takes the cake in the catch department bringing in 4-5 fish. All in all, it was an awesome afternoon. I cant wait for the next family outing, coming this weekend as a trip to Payson. We are headed north to take my cousins senior pictures and found it as an excuse to bring the whole family and make a trip of it.

Things that make me go Hmmmmmmm

Yeah, there are some things that make me go hmmm. And crack me up! Here is my list of things that are questionable, some hilarious, but definitely my life.!

1. My mom wants to cut her hair like Adam Lambert from American Idol. Hmmm

2. My mom is serious about #1. Hmmm

3. Jaycee fits the typical signs of a Leo. Bossy, charismatic, loving, all wrapped into one little body. Hmmmm

4. Darren starts school in September of 2010 since he misses the cut off this school year. Hmmm.

5. Scheisty people. Even worse, being related to one. Hmmmm

6. Watching a family members life go down the drain. Hmmmm.

7. Jaycee's rhythm. Unexplainable, totally on beat, more than my household combined. Hmmm

8. Darren's immediate capability to make friends. Hmmm

9. My quickness to forgive and forget. Hmmm

10. My vanilla-rapture mother and her ability to devour a Samoan ice cream cone in 5.2 seconds flat. Hmmmmm

11. Michael getting hurt at nearly every softball game. Hmmm

12. High school behavior in supposedly grown and mature adults. Double Hmmmm.

13. Darren helping me pick weeds. And liking it! Hmmm.

14. Darren's fascination with bubble gum. Hmmmm

15. Drum roll please! And the last thing that makes me go hmmmm is Darren's growth spurts and the super human amount of food intake that comes with them! 3 and a half turkey hot dogs and a cup of mac and cheese at one sitting! Or what about this? 2 burritos for dinner! Man, am I going to suffer with the grocery bills when that kid is a teenager!

Soda Song

Darren kills me! He has such a personality and I just love to listen to him go on and on about random things. I don't have any pictures to share but the other day when we were driving home he said that he has a favorite song. He said it was the Soda song. I had no idea what he was talking about so I asked him to sing it. Well, turns out he has been paying quite a bit of attention to the songs on Guitar Hero lately haha. He sang "Soda. Take it Easy." Sound familiar? How about "Slow down. Take it easy." Oh, my little funny funny guy!

What to be, what to be?

Driving home from work the other day, a firetruck drove past us near our house. Any time we pass the fire station, Darren's face lights up. The same happens as we drive past the dirt bike track every day too. So of course, any time we see a dirt bike in the back of someones truck, a fire truck driving by or a cop car on the streets, we always point Darren in that direction. After the truck passed I asked Darren what he wanted to be when he was older. He said lots of things. I asked him to tell me what his favorites were and he said "I want to be a doctor, a fire truck, a police man, an Army guy, a dirt bike rider, a baseball player and maybe a soccer player too!" Of course, I told him that he could be anything that he wanted to be. I then asked Jaycee what she wanted to be. She said, "Hmm, a mernade!" For those of you that have had the chance to actually have a convo with her, you know that this statement was in her usual Indian like dialect. Short, sweet and down to business! Obviously, you get from the picture that the translation is a mermaid. Because she is only 2 and 1/2, she didn't quite understand the question, but cute and hilarious none the less!

American Bearby

My little Dare is growing up! Growing up FAST! Some of the things that he says just melt my heart. Take the other night for example. Jaycee and Darren were in the kitchen eating their dinner at the table. Jaycee called out for me saying that she had to go pee pee. (I swear she conveniently waits to go pee until she is already buckled in her seat :) I go to the table, unbuckle her in her booster chair and take her out. Darren looks at Jaycee as serious as can be and says "You can do it Sissy! Make Bubba proud!" Not only did it melt my heart, it got me cracking up. What a little man to say something like that. So Jaycee is done and headed back to the table, climbs into her chair and says "I did it!" Darren said "I am so proud of you! Give me a five!" I tell you, the two of them have quite the bond. They are pure entertainment and anyone that knows them can definitely vouch for me on that one. Although I don't always write down the hilarious and sometimes incredible things that they say, I have to share that Michael and I had been teaching Darren about America as we passed by a community that had the American flag waving in the air. It spiked Darren's interest. How do you explain to a 4 year old that he lives in the United States of America, as well as his home, that he is American and the flag symbolizes that? Well, I don't know either but we did. So after I picked the kids up yesterday after work, Darren sees an American flag blowing in the wind. Apparently our little conversations have stuck because he tried to explain to me that he was American. It went something like this:

Darren: "Hey mom, there is the American flag, see it?"

Me: "Yeah Dare! I see it."

Darren: "Mom, that's the American flag, where I live. I love flags. Did you know that I am an American Bearby?"

Me: "You are my what?"

Darren: " I am your American Bearby! That means I am your American boy! And you are my American Mama, Dads an American boy and Jaycee is an American sister!"

Me: silence. One, the kids is just way too smart! Two, I just love that kid. All I could do was smile. After all, he was right!

Today marks Michael's 27th birthday! Yes, 27! As in 3 years left to 30! Whew, does that sound just around the corner or what? When you have dated someone when you were in your early teens, its pretty weird to be so close to that 30 year milestone. Sheesh, you would think that I am the one that was turning 27 or something. But all that aside, Happy Birthday Michael! We Love ya!

We're throwin' a Potty!

Literally! Since Michael had been home with the kids for nearly 2 months (I am happy to report that he is back in the working world again as of last week) he really worked with Jaycee on potty training. She has done such a good job! We started with the same potty that we used for Darren, although Darren rarely used it. For those of you that have used a plastic, un-flushable potty training chair, you can feel my pain when your child is overjoyed to see the humongous turd in the little potty. I, on the other hand, stare in disbelief and cringe at the thought of disposing this turd, cleaning the tray and still have an appetite for dinner. Okay, that was an exaggeration, my stomach isn't that weak, but still! So tonight, plastic royal flush potty meets plastic recycling bin.

Although she has an accident every now and again and we are still working on the night time diaper vs underoo battle, she is pretty much potty trained! Man, that feels good to say! It also is a relief to think of no more diapers! NO MORE DIAPERS! Darren wasn't potty trained before Jaycee was born so that means that we have consistently bought diapers now for just over 4 years straight. Now if I were a mathematician I would try to calculate. Since I am not, I will give my best guess at $30 a box, 2 boxes a month for 3 years for Darren and 2 1/2 for Jaycee? I am not even going attempt the math on that one! All I know is that we aren't buying diapers anymore, didn't even mess with the glorified diapers they call pull-ups and Jaycee is going, at times all by herself, on the big girl potty! Woot Woot!

Cookies for Santa

This year was a little different for cookies for Santa. Jaycee was old enough to partake in the fun this year. Was there going to be fights between Darren and Jaycee over frosting? You bet! Was there going to be fights over cookies? You better believe it! Would they get in to a tug-of-war over the sprinkles? You bet your babies butt! But, it was fun! I was left sweeping little microscopic balls of sugar afterwards but it was so cute to watch them decorate all the cookies. They each had a strategy for decorating. Darren was the faster you frost, the sooner you eat. Jaycee had a quite different approach. One little layer spread on the cookie, one heaping mound of frosting straight to the mouth. She wasn't very good at hiding the evidence. Darren and I are sure that these are cookies that Santa WON'T want to pass up!

Dear Santa,
I love you and want you to come to my house. I just wanted to say I love you. Please don’t forget.
Jaycee spit on me. We will give you cookies and celery for the reindeer and some warm milk. I won’t suck on my lip anymore ever again. I made a Santa Claus and you can keep him.
My year was great. I don’t want my old trucks that are at my grandma’s house and my house. Can you sit on my couch and wait for us so we can see you and watch TV with us for a little bit?
You can eat here and when you are done you can sleep in my bed.
I was very good this year. I would like race cars, monster truck games and Jaycee can have Polly pocket games. A motorcycle game for me and Jaycee.
My sister would like a reindeer if you can drop your reindeer off to play. He doesn’t have to go to sleep since he is a big boy.
Santa Claus, please drop all your reindeer off and if they are hungry they can eat some turkey.

Family Christmas Party

We had our family Christmas party over the weekend and it was quite the time. Santa of course made his guest appearance, as he does every year! Since my pictures are in no particular order, I will just let you know what is going on as we go.

The kids, and adults patiently waited for Santa to make his grand entrance. Why don't you see Darren in the picture, you ask?

That's because when Santa came through the door he ran like heck to hug him! I just love that he is so into the holidays! Everyone got their turn with Santa, including Michael. I can only imagine what he is whispering in Santa's ear.

Darren patiently waited his turn. They started with the younger kids first then made their way to the older. Poor Darren actually shed a tear after he saw how many of his cousins got called by Santa before he did. I told him that Santa didn't forget him and that his turn would be called very soon. He perked right up, stood up and waited his turn with a smile on his face!

And then, it was his turn! Man was he happy to be sitting on Santa's knee! I don't even think he cared about the presents!

Then it was my turn!
Aunt Misty had planned an art project for the kids to make and take home with them. They turned out so CUTE! I will definitely keep these around for years to come! Here are a couple pictures of the kids making theirs. Jaycee had some help from her cousin Madi but Darren being the big boy that he is did it all by himself!
He did so awesome! Aside from the mustache being placed under the mouth and only one eyebrow, I would have to say you would never know that a 4 year old did it! I am so proud of him!
As always there was lots of good food and of course dessert! You know Darren and Jaycee didn't pass that up! To them, dinner is just a stepping stone to get to the good part!

The kids always have so much fun whenever we are around family. Its nice break for them and a chance to get out of the house and do something fun and healthy (although the pictures above done agree on that healthy portion! :) The kids are lucky to have such a huge family full of older cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents that are always looking out for them, playing with them and just spending some good quality time with them as they grow. Cousin Madi is always helping out with Jaycee and volunteering to have her stay the night without talking to her mom first! She always cracks me up when she does that.

And, as always, we all had to have our picture taken with each other. Here is Michael and I at the end of the night.

I love to mess with Kar! I am always trying to do something right as the person snaps the picture to see what we will get. This was one of my failed attempts. Still funny though!

And then moving on to this one! Kace! I don't get to see her as much as I would like to, but when I do, WATCH OUT! She is crazy and just too much fun!
And then there is my Grandma Jean. I tell you, the apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree. I think my family gets their sense of humor from her! It's no holds barred when it comes to my family and I think she is the root of that. See for yourself!

My Grandpa is no different! He did magic tricks for the kids, okay actually the adults and it was hilarious!
Then my Aunt Cindy! For anyone that knows her, I don't have to say any more. For those that don't know her, all I can is that they are missing out! Like I said, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and when it comes to sense of humor, I think the apple bonked her on the head!
Jaycee and Darren just love her. I think it's because to them, she feels like one of the kids. She will get down on her knees and play with them, talk to them, make them laugh!

Gingerbread

Okay, I am a sucker for gingerbread! I could eat it all day long! Whats better than a gingerbread man? A house of course! So Michael and I found a kit to make everything and thought it would be something fun for him and the kids to do during the week. Little did he know all the time and detail that gets put into it. So, here is the product of Michael and the kids 2 hour project!

After dinner last night, Michael and I thought we should have a little taste test. It turned out we ate almost a whole slat of the roof, with the help of the kids of course! Gotta say, I'm a fan! But judging by Michael's piece, he might take the cake for that title!

Kids. My kids. They crack me up! I love how they play together! And believe it or not, they were actually sharing this little wagon/bucket on wheels. They are both getting to the age where they either love each other or hate each other. Luckily for me, they love to hug. When I look at these pictures, I cant help but burst out laughing. In the first picture, Darren looks like he is ready to dump Jaycee right out of the wagon. But my favorite has to be the second picture. I love both of their facial expressions! They both keep me going. They both make me laugh. I couldn't imagine having one and not the other. They definitely belong as brother and sister. All in all, I just love the heck out of these two! I couldn't ask for better kids.

Halloween 2008

The kids had a great Halloween this year! For the first time it seemed like they both really had a grip on what the whole candy/trick or treating thing was all about. Darren got tons of candy and definitely was not shy about going up and asking for candy. It took Jaycee a couple times of me walking with her and holding her hand before she got the hang of it. They both scored in the candy department.

After trick or treating, we went to the kids Uncle Michael's house. They got to play games for prizes and have lots of good food. Of course, of all the kids left standing at 1:30 the morning after, it was mine. The last picture is how Jaycee woke up the next morning. A little candy covered sucker face.

Darren put it just like it is: "Now that Halloween is over, time to get ready for Thanksgiving!"

1 year today

I am feeling a little nuts today. Not only is today my Aunt Cindy's birthday, its also the 1 year anniversary of my Uncle Johnny's passing. Where did the time go? I know a lot of my family is feeling a tad down about things. I feel sad for my Grandma and Grandpa, but more than anyone, Cindy. How unfair! But you know what? If she isn't asking that question, why should I? She can look at the bright side of things. She can see the day for what it really is and go about it as if it were just another. That is sad to me because she too deserves a celebration. Its weird how life works. The day we celebrate ones birth, we morn ones loss. It's a real eye opener.

This blog wasn't meant to be a downer. I wanted to focus more on my crazy, one of a kind, one in a million more like, Aunt Cindy. I wanted her to know that although I am sad about my uncle, her baby brother, I am thinking of her today. I want her to know that when I think of her, no matter what is going on in my day, I will smile. She makes me laugh hysterically, to the point of being breathless and in tears, always has kind words, always has a joke or awesome quote to cheer you up. She always lets me know she loves me and that we, family, are important to her.

Oh my little Dare Bear. That boy sure does know how to make me smile! He cracks jokes just to get me laugh and it works. Funny stories? There are quite a few when it comes to him. Like saying that his "fever" (stuffed Beaver that his cousin Ckyrah gave to him) would get up in the middle of the night to take pickles from the pickle jar, Darren being the accomplice. We nipped that one in the bud, let me tell you! So did Darren. He put his fever in the corner for a time out for "making him help eat the stolen pickles" in the middle of the night. He sure is clever! hahaha. And then there was the time that Darren decided that taking a nap just wasn't for him. Layering on the winter clothes that he found buried in a box in his closet was more fun. He had so many long sleeved shirts and sweaters on that I am sure even a BB could penetrate. He is so original! I love that he calls the Halloween lights in our neighborhood Christmas lights. I love that he makes sure Jaycee can climb up the stairs at the park and waits for her at the double slides so they can hold hands and go down together. I love that he flexes his muscles after he eats all his dinner and says "look mom, I am growing muscles just like dad!" I love that he loves to look at himself in the mirror and make funny faces. He cracks himself up like no one can! I love that Darren walks down the hall with Jaycee and give each other a hug and kiss goodnight. I love that Darren has his own fashion sense. He thinks socks with flip flops are pretty cool. I love how he is entertained by books. I love that he has a love for his family. That he is aware that he has tons of people who love him and he gives it right back. I love that when I try to take his picture its difficult to get him to not be silly. I love that he tells me not to worry that he is going to be gone when he goes somewhere with Michael. I love that he says he will miss me too. He helps with laundry. He helps with cooking and baking. He cleans his room and sometimes helps Jaycee with hers too. He loves sports. He loves to get dirty, but loves his baths with lots of bubbles. I love that no matter what, Darren always seems to be happy. I just love the kid, period.

Guess what Monday is?

Monday. Normally there is nothing significant about any old Monday, but this Monday is a little different. Monday marks the first day of Fall! That's right, Fall! Now, I love the Arizona sun, swimming, tanning, laying out all day in the sun, but one can get a little tired of the heat after a while. This time, every year, I look forward to the weather starting to cool a bit. There is nothing more perfect than a crisp morning with the warm sun beating down. I love that the kids will bring their blankets out and "snuggle buggles" on the couch. I love to see them all cozy in warm sweaters. Beanies on their little heads, warm socks, stuffed animals in bed with them at night. I love bundling them up with sweaters and gloves and enjoying the changing of the leaves. Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year and its just right around the corner. The more time that passes, the more I look forward to these kinds of Holidays, seeing them through the kids eyes. I love that they get to be around all their family again and make more memories. I know that they wont remember a lot of it until they are a bit older, but you know I will be there with camera in hand! Most people think that I am WAY snap happy, quick on the trigger and always camera ready. Most people would be right! But I like to think of my camera craze/obsession as my link to the past, my memories caught, the things that my eyes and mind will soon forget, I can look back on and be reminded. So as my second favorite time of year makes it way around, you bet I will be there to capture all those memories for not only me, but for my kids. Bring on the cold!

Today is my sweet little Dare Bears 4th birthday! I cant believe that he is been in my life for so long now. Michael and I were watching some old videos of Darren as a new born and it just amazes me how far he has come. He is a full fledged boy! When Darren was born, he stayed in the NICU for 5 days do to a hemorrhage in his head. He gave us quite the scare! Never could I have imagined just how much this little man was going to change my life. Darren enjoys T-Ball, swimming, fishing, camping, hiking, playing in the dirt, baking, coloring, riding horses, catching frogs and reading. Darren is the silliest little boy I know. He always makes me laugh with the things that he comes up with. He is definitely going to be my little class clown! Now, Darren is ready for school, growing like a weed and the most awesome big brother, son, cousin, nephew, grandson, and friend that anyone could ever ask for. So here is to Darren, Happy Birthday Bubba! And thank you for 4 years of the most priceless memories.

Weekend to Remember

This little note is from Michael to me and the kids. I thought it was pretty sweet! Michael had a hunting trip this Labor Day weekend. He and Phil went up North for archery deer. For the first time, the kids and I went on an overnight without Michael. While they were out, the kids and I went to visit my Aunt Dana and Uncle Jim in Payson. We drove up with my mom, brother and grandma. The trip couldn't have been any better. I have lots to tell and not much time to do it in. First, we got up extra early to take full advantage of the rest of the day. We made it to my grandmas house in Scottsdale by 7:15 and shortly after we were on our way to Payson. My brother wanted to go so bad that he didn't care where he sat and since there was only room in the cargo area, in the trunk he went!

He didn't think that my junk in the trunk joke was too funny, I am sure! And on our way we were! The kids were both ready for a fun filled, no agenda, go with the flow weekend. So was I! Here is Jaycee with Great Grandma Jeans glasses on. Dare Bear wore Great Grandmas sunglasses. We got to Payson around 9:30 in the morning. The kids immediately took over the joint, running around, into everything, playing the day away. It wasn't long before we were at the creek with the kids letting them get wet and play in the water.

The kids had their first horse ride and man did they have a good time. Neither of them were scared in the least which was somewhat of a shock to me. Here are some horse pictures.

It was such a great weekend with the kids and family. The weather was perfect, the sound of the rain was relaxing and everything around us was so green! We will definitely be making another trip before that green turns to white!

The Beginning of Something New

So Jaycee is all set up for her first haircut. Its sort of a big "to do" seeing how we waited 2 years where with Darren we only waited till his first birthday. And for those of you that remember Darren's hair pre-first haircut, he was definitely due! He was what we like to call Kramer :)
With Jaycee, I purposely schedule the appointment about a month out, giving me plenty of time to change my mind. Well, we are only a week away now. Her curls are her little trademark and I am so nervous to cut them. It will also give us a pretty good idea of just how long her hair was. So rather than wait to see until after its gone, we straightened her hair. Now, I have attempted this before and wow! It was so many different lengths and as soft as goose feathers. Needless to say, I sprayed some water on it and like magic, the curls reappeared.
This time was a little different. There wasn't much static cling in her hair and it was much longer and cooperative. I couldn't believe it! She was an entirely different little girl! Not to mention it really accentuated her chubby cheeks. Michael couldn't stop telling her beautiful it was. She just played with it and flipped it around and looked at herself in the mirror. Apparently, we weren't the only ones that didn't recognize her! hahaha. Rather than spray it back to curls again, I let her sleep in it. What would you know? Her entire head of hair was back to curls literally in the blink of an eye. Even though I thought her hair was totally cute straight, I cant bring myself to try anymore. I love the curls that she was born with and meant to have.

Jaycee vs. Shirley

I meant to post this last weekend, but with the birthday parties and all there was not a minute to spare it seemed. So the previous week, while at the store, I was stopped, yet again, by another elderly woman. And so the story goes:

"Wow, look at those curls! She looks just like Shirley Temple! Do you get that a lot?" Followed by the always irritating strangers hand running their fingers through Jaycee's locks.

So, I cant say that I don't agree, but thought I would let you be the judge. The resemblance is striking, minus the full indented dimples that Shirley sported.

Birthday Bash

On August 2nd, 2008 we celebrated Darren's 4th birthday and Jaycee's 2nd. The kids celebrated in style with nearly all their family by their sides. They got more toys and clothes than Christmas, and more than I know what to do with! Looks like I get to spend the rest of my day sorting through all their older toys and donating a good majority of them to make room for the new! haha. It seemed that everyone had a blast and enjoyed themselves. It was hot, but the water was cool. Darren amazes me with how much he wants to do things completely on his own. Not only did he run through the water park as if he owned it, but he was such a well behaved little man! Jaycee was also on her best behavior! She hung out with anyone that would let her perch on their hip. Most importantly, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for everything that they have done, did, and ever will do for my kids, my life. Its amazing how 2 tiny little people can play such an important roll in my life, and keep me grounded. The reality is, I don't know where or how my life might be without them. But again, thank you to all who were there with us and made the day special for my little pals. And since Darren cant type, and Jaycee cant talk, I decided to ask them how they would like to thank everyone that came and for the special gifts. Darren said "Thank you for my birthday presents and swimming!" Jaycee said "I unt cup cakes." Translation: she enjoyed the cake! hahaha. And now, a few pictures of the fantastic party.

It's weird to say that Jaycee is 2! It seems like yesterday that I found out I was having a girl and now she is a walking, talking little thing with quite the personality. So, I thought I would share some, okay A LOT, of pictures of Jaycee from the past 2 years as we have watched her grow. It feels so good to see my kids evolving into these little eating, pooping, playing and trouble making little beings. I am so fortunate and proud to share the time that I have had with my kids and let everyone see what I am blessed with everyday! So, here is to Jaycee, and the most incredible 2 years that she has given us, and the many many more to come!!

4th of July

The kids had an awesome 4th! It was spent with Grandma Joan and all the fam! We swam, ate, watched fireworks and relaxed. I was definitely thankful that it landed on a Friday this year. Every other year it was during the week which meant work the next day! We took full advantage of that. Michael and Kirk decided that not only will we watch fire works, but they will put on their own show as well. Beer, sun, swimming and old fire works from Mexico don't mix! The kids cousins and aunts and I all sat on a huge bail of hay to not only protect ourselves from the display Michael and Kirk put on, but to see all the fire works around us too. Michael and Kirk are too funny together! After they had their fill of the fire works, they decided to let off all the remaining ones in a box at the same time. They lit and ran! haha. They are a bunch of goons, but hey, it kept us entertained! As for Darren, there is no such thing as fear. He loves to jump off the spa and into the pool. Of course Michael and Kirk took advantage of throwing all the kids in the pool too.

Jaycee enjoyed home made chocolate chip cookies that grandma made and even held out on swimming so she could finish. She left the evidence all over her face.

With most of the Stewart kids nearby, I decided to get a picture of them playing by the pool. I couldn't help but notice they were all little blondies!

So one of the perks to having a good friend that is a AWESOME photographer is well, the pictures! Me and the kids met up with Sarah at Joe's Farmhouse & Grill for some breakfast and a picture session. The kids just love her so its almost an excuse to hang out too. So, here are just a few products of her genius. Of course, there are tons more and it was hard to just pick a few. You can imagine if it is this hard to pick certain ones for the blog, how difficult it was for me to actually print and hang these babies in my house! Lets just say it has caused some new redecorating projects for Michael and I!

As anyone else that is a Native Arizonan knows, summer time just isn't right without swimming! And because we don't have a pool yet, we have been going over to Aunt Cindy's house to soak up the sun. It seems like a summer tradition has been started! Jack in the Box tacos and vanilla cokes from Sonic seem to be the cherry on the cake. Jaycee has started to swim with just floaties and seems to want to do everything by herself these days.

Darren is off on his own, but not so much that he doesn't watch after Jaycee.

When we aren't swimming at Aunt Cindy's, you can find us in our backyard! Michael always makes the kids his famous snow cones, which are only famous for the large amounts of syrup that is added to them! haha. But the kids love them!

Trying something new

Michael has been working his buns off to get our back yard ship shape for summer! The grass is growing like crazy and with all the watering and mowing comes, you guessed it! FROGS! Michael brought Darren outside to see the frog. Darren wanted to hold it and of course, I was camera ready! Darren loved the frog so much that he didn't want to let it go. He even named it Sarah. So, here is a picture of Darren's friend Sarah that he asks about on a regular basis.

Darren thought that it was pretty cool that he go this picture taken in the dark with his frog. So, while he was supposed to be washing his hands from holding the frog, he took my camera instead. This was the product of Darren's discovery.
You would think I would have learned about leaving my camera out! Well, I didn't. Not only did I leave it out, but I also taught him how to use the timer on the camera. Equipped with a table and the camera, Darren has a little photog session with himself. Only one turned out.

Mother's Day 2008

WOW! So Mother's Day has come and gone and I wish the day could have lasted! We had quite the relaxing, fun filled day!

First and foremost, I got a nap! Wahoo! A very needed, much anticipated nap! What's better is that I actually woke up feeling refreshed and ready to party!

The day started with waking up around 7 as our little early bird decided that if she was awake, that the rest of the house should be too. Michael got Jaycee ready and took her grocery shopping so we could eat breakfast before going to Joan's for a barbecue. Although Michael spent quite some time at the grocery store, we decided that we would take the easy route and reheat pizza for breakfast as he got back closer to lunch time. We ate, washed the kids hands and faces and off for a nap they went!

I took a nap on the couch and Michael watched TV. We were waiting for Mitchell to get to our house before going to Joan's. I woke up, got the kids ready to go and off we went!

It was warm outside, but the pool sure as heck wasn't! Actually, it was pretty cold! That didn't stop Darren and his cousins! Darren of course picked the Sponge Bob floaties and was off!

Jaycee was a little more practical, choosing only one blue floaty.

She also chose to the kiddie pool that was set out for the smaller kids where baby Amhan chose to entertain he bunch! What a ham! The kids couldn't get enough of him. Uncle Kirk and Darren decided that they would do some stunts in the water. Normally Darren would be afraid of this kind of things, but he couldn't get enough!

Jaycee had some "accidents" in her swim suit so after 2 mishaps with no swim diaper and her continuously taking off her diaper, we decided that we would let her run around in her birthday suit instead. She took full advantage of that opportunity.

After eating and swimming, the kids decided that it was quad time! Darren and Jaycee patiently waited their turn to ride. Darren played with his cousins while he was waiting and Jaycee decided that although she is scared of Mitchell and his size, that she would wait on his lap.

Jaycee just sat back and relaxed as Michael took her around a couple times. Unfortunately my camera died right before Darren got on so I wasn't able to get any pictures of how happy he was to get to ride. But if you know Darren, you know the look!

All in all, the day couldn't have been any more perfect! It was one of the most relaxing days I have had in quite some time! Good times!

Jeepers!

This year, Ryhin turned 2 and Vance turned 1! They had a party at Jeepers and of course we were all about some fun! Although Michael wasn't able to come with because of work, we still managed to get some pictures in and have some fun.

Darren went nuts running around Jeepers with Ckyrah like they owned the joint! He loved the spinning barrels and the roller coaster. Jaycee had her fill of the carousel as I think everyone took her on it at least once!

All in all, the food was good, and cake was delicious and what better than to spend time with some of the people you love?

Bittersweet

Dare Bears last t-ball game was Saturday. He was so excited but sad to not be playing with his new found friends anymore. That day was the hottest by far of all the games. Even Jaycee stopped playing with her new found friends to relax for a minute on a chair of someones that we don't know. Shoot, she even kicked up her feet!

It seemed to be never ending too. Jaycee got to see a full game for the first time since her sports were over. She had the best seat in the house!

After the game, the entire team went to Barro's pizza, along with every other team doing YMCA sports. The coach handed out awards and all the kids played together for the last time as "Wildcats."

I am sad for the season to end as I also had made a few friends along the way. So here we come swim lessons! This should be interesting!

Farewell Itty Bitty

I am sad to say that Jaycee has completed her season with Itty Bitty Sports. It has been a such a joy to watch her try something new. She wasn't so excited about soccer and the very thought of not being able to touch the ball with her hands was beyond her. But tball, now that she loved. Although the bat was only the length of my arm from hand to elbow, she still had quite the time trying to swing it to hit the ball. She did though, and I ran the bases with her. There is nothing more adorable than watching her run, one hand on her helmet, the other in mine. I cant wait to get her involved in dance classes. They seem to suit her better, being the sassy little stinker she is. With time though, we will get there. So until next time, here we come swim lessons! Nothing like jumping into a pool at 8 every Saturday morning! wahoo!

I am going to miss getting up and getting her ready to go play for that half an hour every Saturday morning, running the bases with her and trying to squeeze an extra large helmet over her poofy little pigtails. So long Itty Bitty!

Sweetest Thing

Jaycee had her first t-ball experience today. I don't think that there is a more ADORABLE thing! Unfortunately Darren and her game overlapped each other, so Jay and I went to hers while Michael stayed with Darren to finish his. There were tons of kids at Jaycee's today. Of course, I pushed my way through to get her to the front! ha ha. She learned to kneel down and ground the ball, stand up and throw back to me, then bat and run the bases. She did so good! Especially when you compare it to the soccer experiences! She hit the ball all by her self like a big girl, head swallowed up by the helmet and all. She ran each base like she was supposed to and didn't even make me carry her or put up a fight. Michael got to see it all, sitting on the sidelines with Darren. I was so happy he did as he has missed all the other ones due to Darren's games and working on the weekends! Once we rounded 3rd and saw the incredible line of 18 month to 2 year olds standing waiting to bat, I decided that since she already got her turn, we were done! She had a lot of fun, got some fresh air and exorcise and learned something new today. For that, I am thankful (and the nap she will take because of it! :) It was the sweetest thing, next to her of course!

No Wonder

So, Lately I haven't been feeling 100%. I have had a cough for 3 weeks now and have had some pretty bad allergy attacks. I finally decided to go to the doctor, feeling that 3 weeks of not being able to smell or taste was enough. Yesterday I went to work, called the doctor and was able to get into the next appointment, 30 minutes from then. I told everyone at work that I would be back, unless I was contagious, but that I would see them in a few. Yeah right!! I was told I have a sinus infection that led to bronchitis, that could possibly be pneumonia, but they couldn't get a good enough read since I cant even take in a full breath without it turning into a violent coughing spell. So here I am, at home with both kids, not feeling too motherly. I have an inhaler that gives me the shakes, nasal spray that tastes like a giant wave of the ocean just hit me in the face, mouth open and all and an antibiotic pill that is the size of a small sub sandwich. I am able to smell a little now, but my taste hasn't come all the way back quite yet. But hey, I try to look at the bright side of things! At least I don't have to hear the sad attempts of my nose whistling as I try to take in a breath through it anymore! Aww, the joys of having allergies in AZ! Despite all, I still managed to clean the kids up and go outside for some fresh air.

What would you know? Jaycee was on an upswing from her fever. I thought she was better! "Thought" being the key word. I am driving down Ironwood this morning when I hear Jaycee cough and then throw up. For all those that have ever driven down this road, you know that unless you have 4WD or are riding a horse, you cant pull over. Jaycee seemed fine right after, laughing and trying to touch Darren with what he called "her stinkies" which was nothing more than her fingers covered with throw up. I cracked the windows, thinking it would help with the smell, but seeing that it was about 5:15 in the morning, it was a little cold. So I rolled them down more and turned the heat all the way up to keep the kids warm.

Either way I looked at it, I was pretty much out of luck. Even if I could have pulled over, I would have had nothing to clean her or change her into it. So we drove to Lisa's where she helped me get Jaycee cleaned up. She seemed better altogether so I am hoping that no news is good news!

Bed Head

My poor grilly! Jaycee had a fever last night. She wouldn't even touch her dinner. I couldn't find the thermometer anywhere but she was burning up! I gave her Motrin, a bath, then put her to bed. Her fever must have broke over night as she woke up with tight ringlet curls that stuck up into the air and came to a point, just like Michael and Darren when they have tossed and turned. So far this morning, she seemed much better.
